Devotional Content:

I like the Lord’s definition to Bobby Conner: “Tell My people what true prayer is; true prayer is an audience with The King!” His presence is the foothills of deep and meaningful prayer. We’ll never ascend the mountain without it.  It’s where the real adventure starts! Suppose a hand delivered, wax seal embossed letter arrived bearing within itself an invitation to have a private and open-ended conversation with a king, ruler of a nation or the governor of a state.  We would go to whatever lengths necessary, cancel all prior engagements, purchase the perfect attire and learn protocol in the presence of a dignitary, wasting no time in preparation. It would have our undivided attention!  Yet, we have an open-ended, moment-by-moment invitation, to have an audience with the King of the universe.  The very One in whom the entire universe is held together and miss so many opportunities to intentionally cultivate an awareness of His desire to commune with us.  Seeking the Lord daily is at its core a heart issue and requires focused intentionality. If Jesus was intentional about getting away with His Father, and Moses was intentional about finding a place away from the noise of the camp, we should be as well!

Often there are two underlying reasons why many find it difficult to have consistent time in prayer:
We overcomplicate prayer by trying to be heard.  We try to formulate just the right words or think we have to use many words when He already knows what we need before we even ask.  Jesus and our loving Father just want US! Our focus in daily time with Him is not on performance, it’s not on obtaining something whether an answer or a revelation, it’s about being.  Prayer was His idea! He loves to be with us, to hear our voice and yes, even listen to our ramblings.

Secondly, and most importantly, our heart condemns us. Unforgiveness toward others or ourselves, guilt and shame over past mistakes, disappointments and failed expectations are most commonly holding our heart captive, robbing us of confidence and precious time with Him and robbing Him of the pleasure of our company.

Have an Impactful Day!

Today’s Challenge:

  1. Start a journal and intentionally make time for your King, right now book Him into every morning this week.

  2. Locate where you are in your journey, are you in the foothills yet? Ask Him to show you solutions for change, then journal what He says: Are you too busy?  Are you filling up the time with words and never listening?  Is your heart silently condemning you, creating an unrealized wall between you and Jesus?

Jesus, today I accept your invitation afresh. I repent of allowing distractions to divide my time and attention. Draw me into Your gaze, reveal Your heart and open my eyes to see anything hindering my ability to really enjoy you and discover how much you enjoy me! Take me on an adventure!. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
